How the sentence method works
Japanese has two sentence patterns. Keep the subject first, reverse the rest, hang a particle on every noun, put the verb last. You learn it by placing cards, not by memorising tables.

- 1 Every card has a role: noun, particle, verb, ending. The checker parses your row and explains each broken rule in plain English.
- 2 Every lesson line, scene and drill sentence is recorded in a natural voice. Slow it down without changing the pitch.
- 3 Swap practice takes one sentence and changes one piece at a time, so you learn the pattern instead of one line. Scenes then drop the hand-holding.

No. Your progress is saved in your browser on this device. You can export it as a file and import it elsewhere.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Install it from the browser menu and it keeps working without a connection. Audio is cached as you hear it.
What is a kanji radical?
A building block. Every kanji is made of one or more of about 200 radicals. Learn the radicals and new kanji stop looking random.
How long does the sentence course take?
17 lessons of five to ten minutes each, plus swap practice and scenes. Most people finish a unit a week.
