Person と Verb

と means "with"

と (said "to") goes after a person and means "together with": 友達と (with my friend), 田中さんと (with Mr. Tanaka).

Like every phrase, it is free to move. 友達とすしを食べます and すしを友達と食べます both mean "I eat sushi with my friend".

友達とすしを食べます。

(I) eat sushi with my friend.

田中さんとビールを飲みます。

(I) drink beer with Mr. Tanaka.

家族と日本に行きます。

(I) go with my family to Japan.

ロバートさんと映画を見ます。

(I) see a movie with Robert.

One exception: 会います takes に

会います (meet) treats the person as a destination: 田中さんに会います, "I meet Mr. Tanaka". Everything else about the sentence stays the same.

明日田中さんに会います。

(I) meet Mr. Tanaka tomorrow.

駅で友達に会います。

(I) meet my friend at the station.
